Why an angel should listen
This is a venture firm talking about the sectors it invests in, and reading it that way is what makes it useful. a16z is unusually good at articulating a thesis early and in public, and whether or not the thesis is right, knowing what a firm of that size believes tells you what will be funded over the next two years.
The practical use for an angel is early warning about where competition and capital are heading. A sector that a16z is publicly enthusiastic about is a sector where valuations are about to rise and where your portfolio companies may be about to acquire well-funded competitors.
The network extends into specialised shows on crypto, healthcare and AI, which are often more substantive than the flagship because they are aimed at practitioners rather than at a general audience.
