Niklas Östberg
Delivery Hero
Global online food and grocery delivery marketplace · Berlin, Germany
The founder
Niklas Östberg, a Swede with a master’s in industrial engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, worked as a consultant at Oliver Wyman before co-founding food-ordering startup Online Pizza in 2007, which he grew and sold. In 2011 he co-founded Delivery Hero in Berlin, expanding it — partly by rolling up regional food-delivery players — into one of the largest food-delivery groups globally, active in 70+ countries. He remains founder and CEO.
How it was taken public
Delivery Hero listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on June 30, 2017, pricing at €25.50 a share for an initial valuation near €4.4 billion, rising to roughly €4.5 billion (~$5.1B) on debut-day trading — raising close to €1 billion in the largest German IPO of 2017, giving Östberg capital to keep consolidating a fragmented, capital-intensive market against rivals like Just Eat and Uber Eats.
