The founder
Oskar Hjertonsson (Swedish-Chilean) and Daniel Undurraga, together with Juan Pablo Cuevas, founded Cornershop in Santiago in 2015 as an on-demand grocery delivery marketplace, expanding into Mexico and beyond to become Chile’s first unicorn.
How it was sold
Uber first took a majority stake in Cornershop in 2019–2020, then completed the acquisition in July 2021, buying the remaining roughly 47% for 29 million Uber shares — valued at approximately $1.4 billion — making Cornershop a wholly owned Uber subsidiary.
